Mediterranean Atlantis - Sardinia and Corsica 12 Days
This is the dream of every Romantic, lover of Rome, lover of life and those who engage in the "Dolce Vita." If you've got Italian ancestry, you love Italian food, you like warm sunshine in your face and the breeze blowing your hair and careessing you as you unwind, welcome to the trip for you. We will be exploring cultures you may not be aware of, regions that you dreamt of but didn't know enough about. This is Italy and France with a twist, island life and away from the maddening crowds of the Piazzas of the mainland. This is regional, seaside, mountain, hill country where some of the best foods and wines in the world can be experienced. And why not? Welcome to real life Atlantis, Sardinia and Corisca, uplifted once again to a terrestreal cultural paradise.
Fly to Rome for 2 nights where you'll stay near Piazza di Spagna in the centre and from here take another flight to Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia. This 12 day trip enhances your understading of two very unqiue cultures within the Mediterranean, often believed to be the Atlantis of the Ancient World. Sardinia is an island belonging to Italy with its own high level of autonomy from Rome as the people are seafarers with just a little bit more than Italian identity (some would say a lot). Sardinia has its own separate language and cultural mix, particulary in Alghero where the Catalans established part of their empire. Sardinians have one of the longest life expectancies in the world, given the healthy food, great weather and access to plenty of exercise on the beaches and in the hills and mountains. We'll have your private chauffeur/guide show you the hidden gems of this enchanting language, cuisine, culture, landscape and people, discovering many of the aspects that make Sardinia different to mainland Italy. From Alghero, you'll go to la Maddalena up north, very popular with Italians themselves, who really like to enjoy the turqoise waters in this paradise island off Sardinia's north west.
You'll cross the water between the Sardinia and Corsica on a comfortable ferry and explore a unique culture with its own dialect and origins to the rest of mainland France. With excellent seafood, game, wild mushrooms and one of the best cuisines in the world, Corsica certainly excels when it comes to all things culinary. You'll discover the hidden gems and learn about the relationship the Corsicans have both past and present with Paris, Rome and the rest of the Mediterranean. By the end of the trip, you'll be well versed in the history of Spanish, Catalan, Roman, Italian, French, Ottoman, Greek and Siclician history, each civilisation having their own impact on these very special two Paradise Islands.
